Though governments are passing legislation requiring people to buy electrical vehicles, in 2023, we saw the first reported drop in the number of EVs being sold around the world.
This downward trend has now continued into the first quarter of 2024.
People are turning against EVs, and the Wall Street Journal recently did a poll to find out why.
The Daily Mail provided a summary of the top reasons why. Below are the top seven:
- 72% attributed the decline to the high cost of EVs. This is not just the cost of purchasing a vehicle, as their heavyweight also requires the owner to purchase tires in some instances every 6,000 miles. EVs can also be completely written off over the slightest accident because of damage to the batteries, which is the most expensive part of EVs. As well, EVs trade-in value rapidly declines as they age because of the degrading batteries.
- 65% said there weren’t enough charging stations, and this is compounded by charging stations being routinely vandalized for their copper.
- 64% said that gas vehicles were more reliable.
- 63% stated that they didn’t like the limited range of EVs, which can be reduced by over 40% in cold weather. Apparently, even hot weather can negatively impact the batteries as well.
- 57% said that EVs don’t perform as well as gas vehicles. I still remember the article by one new proud owner of an EV, who spent more time charging her EV on one four-day trip, than she did sleeping.
- 46% state that gas vehicles are safer than EVs, which have a tendency to start on fire unexpectedly because of their batteries.
- 36% said they didn’t like them because the resources and parts come from Communist China.
